Spring Cup Winner!!!
What a gorgeous day for the Spring Cup-- although it felt a lot more like high summer than early June. Despite temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 80's, everyone had a great time-- with the pictured Ray Durgan and his partner, Jack McNary, winning the shootout at the end of play. View our Spring Cup Slideshow to see more great pictures of a great day. And the fun wasn't just around the tournament-- as part of a fundraiser for next week's Blue and White Classic, we did a "ball drop" on the 18th green. With some help from the Bath fire department, a WHOLE lot of golf balls were dropped from the sky to the green below-- you have to see the pictures to believe it. And it's true-- one of the balls did go into the hole!
A GREAT SEASON UNDERWAY... TWO MORE ACES
Congratulations are in order for Jim Gould who scored an Ace on this past Sunday on hole #13. This was Jim's 4th Hole in One ~ way to go Jim! Today, Traci Footer scored a Hole in One on hole #16 and Paula Waterman was there to watch. Everyone in North Bath heard the screams of joy! For those of you wondering, her husband, Bob Footer, has never had a Hole in One, so make sure you mention that to him next time you see him.
FIRST HOLE IN ONE OF 2008!
Congratulations are in order for Mike Hart who scored the first ace of this young golf season. Mike's Ace was on the 13th hole and his playing partners were Ed McGlaughlin and Alan Fields. Mike used a 9 iron from 120 yards to score the Ace.
Woo hoo, way to go Mike!
OPENING DAY 2008!!
Jim Gould of Cundys Harbor watches his putt on the 9th hole at the Bath Country Club on Sunday. View our Opening Day Slideshow to see more pictures of the day.
It didn't take long for word to spread-- we opened the front 9-holes on Sunday for members... and had over 70 golfers come out to play! We will open the front 9-holes to the public on Monday. And with warmer weather in the forecast, we're planning to have all 18-holes ready for play before next weekend. Fore!!SNOW? WHAT SNOW?!?

Don Sedor attempts to get closest to the pin at the Bath Country Club on Saturday while Alex Marshall, Brian Bennett, Max Bloomer and Jeff Turner look on. Alex Marshall was the closest at 9 feet 6 inches. Bath Country Club was almost clear of snow before Friday’s snowstorm and these members of the club weren’t going to let the snow stop them from getting in a few swings before the golf season starts.
CLOSEST TO THE PIN... CLOSER TO SPRING

The picture above of the 10th fairway at Bath shows you... we have WAY more grass than snow! Opening day is soon... and before that happens, we're planning a "Closest to the Pin" contest on Saturday March 29th. Hey! Golf is back!
VALENTINE'S BUFFET FEBRUARY 15TH!
Valentine's Day is next Thursday... but we've decided to make it Friday, instead. At least, that's when we'll celebrate it! We will be serving a very special Valentine's Day Buffet February 15th. The menu will be posted early in the week, and we hope to make your Valentine's Day a very special one. If you're lucky, Dick Carroll make join you for dinner and tell you a story or two. Ah, love!
1ST BALL OF THE NEW YEAR!

Our 1st Annual New Year's Eve bash was a great success-- between the food, the fun, the games of "Beer or No Beer" (thank you, Denny Barrett) and the music, everyone who attended had a terrific night. It all culminated with Traci Footer hitting the first drive of 2008 at midnight! From the 1st tee, Traci launched that ball right into the cold, crisp New Year's Eve night. It was too dark to tell if it went right, left or straight... but we believe that ball went the same way as Bath Country Club-- upward and ever forward. What a way to end our 75th Anniversary year!

THE SUMMER OF FRED ROLLS ON
![]()
The man does get around. And for someone that's not more than a quarter of an inch thick, he's got a lot of heart. We're speaking, of course, of Fred Couples-- at least, the cardboard display of Freddie with whom everyone wants to party! Fred showed the Morse High Class of '87 how to get down when he attended their 20th Reunion at the Club on June 9th. Whether hanging out with some buddies (pictured: Shawn Arsenault, Tom Dorion and Joe Cawley) or surrounded by beautiful women (pictured: Marline Cahill, Amy Leonard, Ann Gray, Michelle Boisvert, Karen Singer and Sue Rapa). Freddie was the life of the party. And then on June 20th, Freddie was seen on the first tee with Red Sox legend Luis Tiant. El Tiante was part of our Annual Rotary Tournament-- we don't know what Fred and Luis talked about, but we did see a marked improvement in El Tiante's swing when they were done. Summer's not over yet-- and as long as he stays out of the rain and away from open flame, Fred will continue to make regular appearances at the Bath Country Club.
WE NOW PRONOUNCE YOU MAN, WIFE AND FREDDIE

After his winter-long jaunt across the country with Kaye and David, Freddie Couples has been enjoying his summer at Bath with new and old friends. His social calendar has been fuil-- here he is, in attendance at the Johnny & Zarina Johnston wedding in June. As you can see, he caught the bouquet! Word has it that Freddie was also the life of the Morse High School Class of '87 Reunion, but pictures have not yet come through. Perhaps what happens at a Freddie Couples party... stays at a Freddie Couples party.

FREDDIE HEADS HOME

For those who have been to the club... you know that Freddie Couples is home from his winter-long jaunt with Kaye and David. Here is Kaye's last diary entry from the great Freddie Road Trip... welcome home, Freddie!
Hi Shawn,
This will be the last installment from Pinehurst - we're bringing Freddie home to the great state of Maine! Fred's been extremely busy since we last wrote and I'll try to catch you up. About a month ago, we took Fred and my parents over to visit Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte (that's Fred in the upper blue section, he kinda blends in.....). We took the 30 minute tour and sped 90 mph on the track in a 10-passenger van - should have seen Fred's face as we banked the 21 degree turns and clung to the seats! A few weeks later, we took another road trip south to Port Royal, SC and visited Linda (McCole) and David Wiliamson. Linda's mom was Doris McCole, and we had a great time recalling the good ole days at BCC.
A few weeks later, the weather heated up and we headed to Lake Tillary, where Freddie kicked back, stayed cool and enjoyed the views. Fred partied with our friends Jim and Cindy, and my sister Wendy all afternoon. He even got to drive Jim's boat - and oh, yes, he wore his life jacket.
Well, that about sums up the travels of Fredde this time. We plan to land back in Bath this weekend and we'll bring Fred right over to the club - get the bar-b-que gear ready in the pro shop 'cuz Fred will be ready to grill.................thanks again for letting Fred spend the winter with us.
On the road again, with
Freddie, Kaye and Dave
OKAY, LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN...
![]()
So we opened briefly at the end of March... and now, it's for real. Shawn Arsenault says, "The engine's running and they're no stopping it now!" As of Saturday, April 21st, Bath Country Club is officially open for the 2007 season! All 18 holes are open, with no temporaries. In fact, the comment we're getting from nearly everyone is: "MAN are those greens green!!" Have a look for yourself by watching our Opening Day Slide Show. Or should that be Re-Opening Day? Who cares... get out here and tee it up! Golf is back! Give us a call at the Pro Shop (442-8411) to book a tee time-- we have a feeling things are going to get busy.
SUNNING IN THE SOUTH: FREDDIE'S LATEST

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES Freddie receives training on becoming a greeter at Pinehurst.
Freddie Couples' journey with Kaye and David continues... here's the latest from the road trip!
Dear Shawn,
We have to say - Freddie seems to looking forward to and getting excited to be a part of your new Members Pub! We've noticed a different "gleam" in his eye(s) that may indicate he's thinking about his journey back up Route 1 to his summer home at Bath Country Club. But we honestly think he'll soak up a few more rays of southern sun and wait for the warmer weather up north. He hasn't let any grass grow under his feet down south however. Recently, he welcomed Dana & Liz McCurdy of Bath to Pinehurst, posing with them at the famed "Putter Boy" statue at the Pinehurst Club putting green. Upon arriving at the Club, Freddie was warmly welcomed and made friends easily with the local club greeter. Ahhhhhhh, Fred certainly has not lost his smooth and gracious charm!
The weather is definitely warming up, golf traffic is now upon us - let the games begin!
Kaye, David & Couples
MEMBER'S PUB IS OPEN!
![]()
COME IN OUT OF THE COLD Where else would you rather spend a wintry day than the Bath Country Club Member's Pub?
The 10th fairway is covered with snow, and despite bright sun and blue sky lately, the temperatures haven't rallied above freezing much in the last month. Here at the Bath Country Club, though, our members are warm, cozy... and playing golf! After months of hard work, our Members Pub in the downstairs of the Clubhouse is finally open! The room features big screen TVs on most of the walls... dart boards... our big Double Eagle Golf Simulator and Virtual Hunting Range... plenty of comfortable seating... and panoramic views of golf course all around. (view our February Slide Show) It's just another of the ever-growing number of reasons that it's good to be a member at Bath Country Club. Come in out of the cold... join the Club today!
FREDDIE PASSES ON RETURN; HANGS AT MYRTLE
![]()
Freddie Couples' wintertime journey continues. The latest from the road...!
Hi Shawn,
A quick note to keep you abreast of Freddie's whereabouts - we're going to travel North to Bath to visit the kiddos and Freddie has decided to pass on the trip - he's going to hold the fort down at Pinehurst 6 and feed the birdies while we're away (on the course and otherwise). Mike & Gladys offered to have him stay with them, but his heart remains in Pinehurst. He did get to visit Indian Wells Golf Club in Myrtle (see photo)...a course blessed by the presence of fellow Bath dewsweepers Pinkham, Benoit, Leonard and Perreault in '06. Indian Wells is one of four courses Mike P. plays regularly - a tight tract with lots of H2O. More next week when we return to the sandhills..........
Dave , Kaye & Couples
FREDDIE ES MUY BUENO!
![]()
The road trip continues! the next installment in the 2007 Freddie Couples Tour continues with our friends Kaye and David. Here's Kaye's latest e-mail, with links to a few new photos...
Dear Shawn,
We thought we should forewarn you that due to the cold jet stream that passed through Pinehurst recently, we felt it prudent to take Freddie on the road to warmer climes (again). We stopped at "South of the Border" (per your request) and snapped a few photos of Freddie and his amigos. Then landed in Pawley's Island, South Carolina to unthaw for a few days with Mike and Gladys Perreault. Freddie is going to hit the links with us in Myrtle tomorrow - we think he'll feel right at home at 60 degrees versus the 40's we've been having (he hasn’t ' stopped smiling, so that's a good sign, eh?).
Freddie enjoyed watching the Super Bowl with the Bath linksters (although it's still up in the air as to which team he was for) - he did pass on the boiled peanuts however and went directly for the salsa and chips.
Stay tuned for more continuing road trip saga,
Cheers,
Dave, Kaye, Mike, Gladys and Fred
FREDDIE COUPLES-- ON TOUR WITH KAYE AND DAVID
![]()
He's a stand-up guy. He's always smiling. A little on the thin side (especially in profile), but we all love to party with him. We're talking, of course, about the Club's life-size Freddie Couples display, currently on tour with Kaye Pierson and Dave Leonard in warmer climes. The picture above was e-mailed to us with the following message from Kaye:
Shawn,
Thanks for sending Freddie south with us - and he thanks you too! As you can see, he's well-rested from his trip and is ready to play golf....he's been out on the deck since breakfast and you know.........I think he likes it! :) We left 4:30am Fri. morning and landed unscathed around 9:30pm.....it's going to be 70ish today and we're headed to hit balls and maybe play a short 9.
Kaye & Dave
THE 2006 SEASON ENDS... IN 2007
Okay. We give up. On January 13, 2007, we finally declared the 2006 season to be over. Golfers will recall that we opened unusually early this past season-- on March 8th. We have been playing golf continuously until now... for those who are counting, that is a 312 day, 11-month golf season. IN MAINE!! In December, we had 395 rounds of golf played throughout the 19 days the course was open for play. In January, we were only open the first half of the month and did 285 rounds! It was quite a strange thing on Sunday, January 7th to see our parking lot three-quarters full and a golfer on nearly every hole of the course. We'll take a quick break for a couple of months... and see everyone in the spring! Remember to stay tuned to the website for continued happenings at the Clubhouse, even as the course is closed. Thanks everyone, for an unforgettable season!
Bath Country Club-- National News Story!
Dick Carroll-- PGA Golf Pro, Teacher, Bath Country Club Golf Director... and now... national radio personality!! As news of Bath's record-breaking season (Opened March 8th, still open as of December 30th!) has spread throughout Maine, the story has progressed to the AP and now National Public Radio's show, "Marketplace". Dick Carroll was interviewed by Marketplace for the story-- listen to it or read the interview online at Marketplace's website! Great job, Dick... and we'll see everyone on the course to bring in the New Year on Sunday. Wow!!
